Transcendent Conversations.

I learned about 'The Chiasm' as a philosophical concept earlier this year in a course I took on Hermeneutic Phenomenology. This concept was a central theme in many writing by French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1908-1961).

The Chiasm, for Merleau-Ponty is what occurs between self and other in moments of true connection. It is the moment of intertwining in relationship and conversation where we can be truly open and moved by another's perspective - while still acknowledging and holding our own perspective.

We all bring our own historical, cultural, and personal history into our relationships. But, how difficult it is to acknowledge these tender parts in others and in ourselves all at once? To be known and know another is a lifelong need and requires lifelong learning.

Each half circle in the chiasm image above represents one being in connection with another being. Out of this connection- a third space in the center becomes apparent. This third space is where growth and healing can happen between us. This is a potential space for transcendence or 'deeper knowing' that we can create in relationship.

This was the inspiration for my logo!
